Exercise and Training – When Less is More – Wed. 14 Sep 2011

A man running up a very steep hill, possibly a sand dune

We all know that exercise is good for us but few people do enough exercise to produce health benefits. One of the major reasons for non participation is time. But what if we told you that as little as 6-15 minutes of exercise a fortnight can keep you healthy and improve your exercise performance!

This talk will introduce you to a time efficient training program, known as HIT, that requires only a short amount of time to produce both dramatic improvements in exercise performance and induce the health benefits associated with traditional exercise.

Dr. John Babraj from the University of Abertay will discuss the novel findings from his lab showing changes in the body’s sensitivity to insulin and changes in lactate build up in just 2 or 6 weeks which has major implications for performance and disease risk especially type 2 diabetes.

This means that people, both elite athletes and fun athletes or those looking to improve their health, should start to train smarter not longer.

The talk will be hosted in our regular venue, the delightful Infusions Coffee Shop, inside Dundee Science Centre – Sensation . Doors open at 5.30pm when the cafe will be serving drinks and snacks, and yes, you will be able to treat yourself to a hot chocolate!

This is a FREE event and EVERYONE IS WELCOME. There is no need to book in advance but arrive early to avoid disappointment.
